October Sky

7th Graders who returned their 4th term interims signed and a permission slip will watch the movie October SkyOctober Sky follows the life of high school student Homer Hickham and the "Rocket Boys."  Homer and his friends use some math skills, hard work, and ingenuity to teach themselves how to build a successful rocket.  This leads them to some negative attention, but ultimately rewards them with a successful science fair entry.

Homer and the boys wanted to quit several times, but they were encouraged by their teacher, Miss Riley, to keep working at it.  They were inspired to do something they never thought was possible.

Have you ever had a teacher inspire you like Miss Riley?    Post a story in the comments about a teacher who had a positive impact in your life.

  7. My art teachers inspired me to do art. They always told me that i was a good artist and that i should consider taking art classes in middle and high school. I am glad my art teachers said something because now art is one of my favorite things to do.

  8. It was a really inspiring movie! It portrayed or tech and math class very nice by explaining the dynamics of rocket designing! It reminds me of the movie "Matilda" with the supportive teacher Miss Honey.

  9. October Sky was a very inspiring and thought provoking movie that reminded me of some teachers that really helped me and other students achieve great things. For example, one of my teachers really helped me get through hard times and do well in her class as well.

  10. The movie was very good! At first I thought it would be boring but it was good and funny at some times too! Hmmm...if I had to choose a teacher like Miss. Riley it would probably be a music teacher I had in elementary school Miss. Smith (I think that's her name...). She helped me relize that i loved singing and acting and that I was actually pretty good at it! :)
